Former British prime minister Winston Churchill (1874–1965) once said, “Plans are of little importance, but planning is essential.”
I like to apply this advice to selling and advertising best practices. The job of making your strategic marketing plans becomes more straight-forward and manageable (not to mention, far less daunting) when you plan ahead.
Why online marketing is so important
It’s critical to keep up with the times and be flexible in an ever-changing business environment. Do your current marketing strategies line-up with how people are buying today? What are you planning for 2018 to do a better job finding your qualified customer where they are? (Hint: They are online. A lot.)
In today’s digital age, it’s a challenge to advance your business without a robust online presence. Digital marketing is no longer optional for any company serious about making gains. 96% of Americans shop online, and most spend over five hours daily using their smartphones and tablets.
Use your strategic marketing efforts to reach them where they’re spending the most time. Your target customers are asking questions online every day. Does your website answer them? Are you sure?
Think about the last time you searched for an answer to a problem online. Did you use Google to search for a solution by name or did you ask Alexa or Siri for the answer to a question? Don’t miss this opportunity. With upfront strategic planning and by following digital marketing best practices, you can make the most of every click.
It’s time to plan for success
The end of a calendar year is a great period to look back. You’ll find that outlining goals and documenting priorities will not only help with budget planning but it will also keep everyone focused. Win-win!
Don’t get left behind. Your competition’s marketing team is developing a strategic plan to target the same customers as you. Now is the time to start thinking about the best goals for your company, and how you’ll get there.
The Freshley Digital team has the expertise to help you with campaigns both big and small and figure out how it all fits together. Contact us today to help you get started.
Williams Jewelers Grand Opening Celebration
Bruce Freshley with Steve Williams and daughter Shaina Williams
This past weekend Bruce and Martha Freshley traveled to Denver, Colorado to celebrate the Grand Opening of Williams Jewelers new Englewood store. As you may know from an earlier post, after 40 years across the street, Steve Williams acquired and old bank building site on the corner of Broadway and Belleview just south of downtown Denver. The Grand Opening was a lavish affair with catering by Elway’s Steak House, champagne flowing and several hundred of Williams Jewelers best clients and friends. A long time client of Freshley Media, the two Williams Jewelers stores, Bruce Williams in Cherry Creek and Steve Williams in Englewood, have have truly become Denver’s First Family of Fine Jewelry and a major force in Colorado. The New store is over 13,000 square feet and features an almost 30ft vaulted ceiling, a new Rolex Watch Salon, a huge bridal department featuring brands like Tacori, Verragio and Hearts On Fire…and a cozy den with a fireplace and bar. What has been the response so far? ”It’s been incredible!”, reports Steve Williams” It really is amazing…dozens of new customers every day. The numbers are crazy, we’re breaking record after record! I’m so proud of Shaina, my wife Diane and our whole team! “
Congratulations to Williams Jewelers from the Team at Freshley Media, Inc./Freshley Digital.

Don’t waste your customers’ time. As you go through your prospect list, pick out specific pieces in the store that fit each client perfectly, items you know they will love. Be their secret shopper, Santa’s little helper. That is your job, right? Then pick up the phone and start calling. Again, the more thought you give, the better the return. Your client’s time is precious. Remember, for many of your customers, money is not the issue… it’s more about how meaningful, how precious the gift will be. It’s your job to make this Christmas morning unforgettable.
The last two weeks you will be too busy to be proactive. Start now. Start Today! Make this the best Christmas Selling Season of your jewelry career!

I. Social Media Advertising
Facebook and Instagram ads will help propel your message to consumers that aren’t actively following your content today. On average, a non-advertised post will reach less than 10% of your current followers. Advertising helps you reach the other 90%.
II. Premium Site Retargeting
Only 2% of your web traffic will convert the first time they visit your website. Premium site retargeting allows you to serve ads to anyone who visits your site. Retargeting is your best option to reach the other 98% of your site visitors!
III. Custom Digital Design
Throughout the campaign, you will have direct access to our team of Digital Designers. Each month, Freshley Digital will create a custom marketing tool for your store. Options will include: a custom e-mail campaign, Facebook cover design or custom counter-card design.
Pricing: $1,595/month with a 3 month commitment*
Alex Rysman’s voice is immediately recognizable by tens of thousands of Bostonians. That’s because for almost two decades, Alex and Romm Diamonds have been on Boston radio. For the last 5 years, they have only been on ONE station, WBZ 98.5 The Sports Hub. As you can imagine, radio in the Boston market, the 8th largest media market in the country, is incredibly expensive. Buying radio is beyond the reach of most independent jewelers, but can create a great opportunity if you’re smart. Being a sports crazy town…maybe the most sporting town on the planet, Sports Talk is the perfect fit for Romm Diamonds because it allows Alex to communicate directly with his most important market…guys between 25 and 35, with very little waste. This critical market segment drives the diamond engagement ring business. “Almost every day someone mentions our radio ads at the diamond counter” explained Dean Learned, Romm Diamonds’ long time manager, “ It’s Boston. Boston loves sports…. The Patriots, Bruins, Celtics and Sox. Can you think of a bigger sports town?” No Dean, we can’t.Even though Romm Diamonds is only one store, way out in the southern suburbs of Boston, they are a player. They have game. The lesson is this: In a crowded market you have to find a way to stand out. You need a silver bullet. You need to dominate a space…even if that is only one station. But with the right station, in the right market with the right message…you can compete and win.
are five things you can do today to launch your holiday, social media marketing campaign.1. Social Media Cover Images
Update your social media cover images to reflect the holiday season or your holiday marketing campaign. Holiday cover image themes include:
- Photos depicting the holidays or the season
- Your holiday promotion or sale information
- Team members enjoying the holidays
- Holiday greetings or messages to your followers
2. Schedule Your Holiday Social Media Posts
Not every store has holiday promotions or events, but most will want to send holidays wishes to their followers (i.e. customers/potential customers). Use a social media scheduling tool to pre-schedule your holiday social media posts so they aren’t overlooked or forgotten.
3. Write Your Holiday Social Media Calendar
Grab a cup of coffee, a quiet corner and a calendar and write down your holiday social media plan on the calendar.
Your holiday social media calendar will be your go-to resource for the next 2 months.
Bonus tip: Save this year’s holiday social media calendar as your template for next year’s holiday social media marketing!
4. Curate A #HolidayHashtag
Curating content is all about finding someone else’s content that fits your store’s image, and reusing that content (properly credited, of course) on your own social media channels.
Of course, you can create your own holiday hashtag, but if you really haven’t started your holiday marketing campaign yet it might be more productive to curate a holiday hashtag, and create your own unique holiday hashtag next year! You can spend some time surfing your social media channels for hashtags that complement your messaging.
5. Be Helpful or Entertain
Help your followers by sharing holiday tips and messages, or relieve their holiday stress with a bit of laughter! Many of us share the same seasonal stress and deadlines, and you can speak to your audience by sharing your favorite:
- Holiday jewelry trend reports
- Gift or wrapping ideas
- Decorating and entertaining tips
The holidays are here… but its not too late to plan and execute a successful holiday, social media campaign. You may start small this year, and start planning for a bigger seasonal marketing strategy next year!
Don’t have time to do it yourself? Give Freshley Digital a call and let us put together a strategic, budget-friendly, social media strategy for The Holiday Season.
Let’s be honest. When is the last time you took a GOOD look at your website? Is it current? Are the products up to date? Is it user friendly and “shop-able”?
Your website says a lot about your business. In many cases, it is a consumers first impression of your business. Having a beautiful AND optimized website can be a daunting task and many folks are too overwhelmed and understaffed to take on such a major project.
The architecture and aesthetics of the ideal website change at a rapid pace, making it easy to find your site antiquated and in dire need of an upgrade or just not beneficial to your business. Users are now browsing the web from different devices, and the best practices of effectively reaching consumers are evolving at an equal pace.
Here are three signs it’s time to invest in a website redesign.
Aside from the load speed, the aesthetics of your website play a huge roll in a user’s initial impressions. If your website has an outdated look, it’s likely diminishing your authority and causing users to abandon the page.2. Your Site Has a High Bounce Rate
If you’re paying attention to the analytics of your website (which you should be), then you’ll be able to see stats on things like the click through rate and bounce rate of your site. Bounce rate indicates the pace at which users are leaving your website, and be very telling of issues that need to be addressed. A number of things can affect the bounce rate of your website, including things like broken links, poor load speed, or a poor design.
3. The Website Isn’t Mobile Friendly
As has been repeatedly reported, more searches are being conducted from mobile devices than desktops, and a huge number of those searches result in a purchase or share. Bearing that knowledge in mind, you can’t expect your website to have that kind of success among consumers if it isn’t responsive to different devices.
